Flying with a pet: airports where you will be welcome

šŸ¾ It's no secret that travel, even the most long-awaited one, is stressful, and flying with a pet is doubly stressful. To make travel easier for passengers with pets, more and more airports around the world are creating special areas where four-legged travelers can stretch their paws, use the toilet, and relax.

On the road, the issue of finding an area for walking dogs is especially acute. If cats, ferrets, and other small animals, although with less comfort, can still do their business in a carrier, then dogs need a lawn or at least an area that imitates it for this. In this article, we have compiled a list of airports that are committed to making travel easier for passengers with pets.


SPAIN


  • Barcelona, Spain.Ā ElĀ PratĀ Airport

The airport has four dog restrooms equipped with artificial grass, water fountains with taps on two levels, litter bins, and bollards to tie the leashes. As a guide, look for signs that say Pet Relief:

  • Madrid, Spain. BarajasĀ Airport

The airport has installed a space for pets in the outdoor arrivals area of Terminal T1. The space, which is about 50 m2, is landscaped and can be used as a dog toilet. It has an area for activities, a sandbox, a drinking fountain, a bag dispenser, a waste bin, and a bench.

In the future, another park will appear in the arrivals area of Terminal 4. Three indoor areas are also planned in the boarding areas of Terminals 2, 4, and 4S. You can find Pet Relief by following area signs or by asking airport staff.

At the airport in the passenger terminal, there are several areas intended for pets: Passenger terminal. Floor 0 Module C. Floor 1. Shipment C48 Passenger terminal. Floor 4

These areas provide dog walking areas, toilets, and drinking water fountains for pets.

The space where you can walk your dog, as well as serve pets traveling in a carrier, is located on the ground floor in the boarding area in Terminal 1 before Gates 7 and 8. There is an area with artificial grass with a water purification system and a little fire hydrant, a fountain with drinking water, a sink with toiletries, a trash can, and a seating area.


ITALY


  • Olbia, Italy. Olbia-Costa SmeraldaĀ Airport



Dog restrooms can be found at Pet Relief signs. It is located immediatelyĀ after the security screening area and is equipped with artificial turf, a trash bin, and a drinking water bowl.

To make it easier for your four-legged friends to wait for you, there are 2 pet areas available at Fiumicino airport: One is at the Terminal 3 baggage claim area, near belt number 14. The other one is outside door No. 2 in the Terminal 3 Arrivals area, in the direction of Kiss & Go parking via Generale Felice Santini, which is open to all, subject to the rules posted on the entrance gate.


FINLAND

The airport has two areas for passengers with pets: outdoors and inside the terminal. As a guide: signs that say Pet Relief.

The open area is located at Gate 51 in the Non-Schengen area. Opening hours: 24 hours a day. The pet relief area inside the terminal is located in its enclosure, making it easier to use even with timid dogs. The service can be used by passengers and their pets whose flight departs from gate area 40ā€“60.


Areas for passengers with pets at other European airports


Unfortunately, most other European airports do not yet have designated areas for pets. However, below we provide a small list of airports with open-air dog walking areas. Usually, these places can be found next to the terminal or within a 1-2 minute walk:
